This website features about 100 color photographs taken by my Dad, Dick Bastasch, when he was on Saipan, roughly between October 1944 and October 1945. It also features black and white images of bombing- and other missions, as well as war-time memorabilia (samples of manuals, notebooks, base guides).
Dad was assigned to the 73rd Wing, 497th Bomb Group, 871st Squadron, where he was a B-29 remote control turret mechanic.
Dick returned to Portland, Oregon after the War, married Betty in 1948, had two sons, and worked for Franz Bakery until hs retirement in 1971. He died in 1974.
