B29 and Saipan World War II Memorabilia Gallery 5
This is a rising sun painted on aluminum (it's about 1.5 inches square). My Dad indicated he cut it off the wreckage of a plane--if I recall correctly, a Japanese plane. But it also looks like it might be the kind of symbol USAAF planes might have painted on their fuselages to indicate a kill...?
With apologies to veterans and current military men and women and their families--I am sorry to say I don't know the correct way to refer to these patches nor what they symbolize (other than the patch for the 20th Air Force). Information and comments on these are invited (b29saipan@gmail.com).
